And in the end.

What a self-indulgent trip down memory lane that was for me! From your comments over the last week, I think the images triggered some memories for you too. I hope you had as much fun as I did.

I'll just leave you with a few more random bits and pieces that I found after my last post.

Recognise anything?

I'm done with the past now and ready to look forward. Thanks again for reading, and have a great weekend wherever you are X

P.S. Anyone remember The Dog? I think she's quite anxious to tell you a couple of stories. Same place next week perhaps? Till then :)

Are those children's playing cards? I do believe I had some just like that. And the hanky - I had hankies and pillowcases with that same embroidery on it.
You can't be done with this trip down memory lane. I'm sure you're not. What about kitchen stuff - don't you have some treasures there? I still have my mom's old kitchen scales, and the pan she used to make the World's Best Roast Potatoes in.
As for the Dog-Who-Has-A-Name, well, I'm looking forward to hearing from Georgia again too. Does she have some memorabilia to show us? Some Very Old Toys perhaps, or a Favourite Blanket?

HAHA! Of course I could go on, Jean. I could probaby start a whole new blog on the junk I have! As a matter of fact, I do have the old kitchen scales. It sits on the old oven and if you blow up the picture in that post, you'd probably see it right at the back on the right hand side. I use it to store the stones for my Berimbau ;)

As for The Dog, she doesn't have too much memorabilia. Everything she has gets used, torn, broken and thrown away. Her motto is "live for the day" :)

I had a snakes and ladders board game - just like that! I still cannot believe the stuff you have kept - truly amazing. Of course I recognised something - the insignia (if that's correct word) on the hanky is the same on the little tankard on your baby bracelet. Will you tell us what it is??? :) please....
xx

Are they the Old Maid cards? If so, I had them too!

georgia little pea said...

Good morning, Rose!

Old maid. That sounds so familiar but I can't quite place it. The cards here (in case the picture is too fuzzy) are Snap (missing the box), Secret Agent (missing the monocle blast it!), Faraway Tree, Happy Families and Golden Egg. I played with all of them but no longer remember how (except for Snap). The snakes and ladders board is beautiful! But torn in 2. There is no mystery insignia, I'm afraid! Pure coincidence. I'll have to go look at them closely now. Wish I could tell you I was royalty!

Or maybe not.

Does you have any idea what treasures you has? I mean to a hooman...to a dog, a treasure would be a possum or squirrel...but I won't get off track tonight. Those cards and hanky are AWESOME, said mum. Her has some cards similar to those but they had animals...so they are not similar as she says. Anyways, I thoroughly enjoyed goin' down memory lane withs you. It's always neat to sees hows udders grew up an lived.
You wanna knows how I grewed up? Well I tells you. They tried to train me....bwhahahahahha.
I can't wait to sees what Georgia has been up to.

Puddles, did your mama keep all the skulls or tails of the rats and squirrels you deaded? Or maybe stuffed them? You could have your very own memorabilia wall at home. Wouldn't that be exciting?! X

Dog? What dog?

Isn't that David Bowie from 'The Man Who Fell To Earth' times... I was in love with DB for much of my teenage years. I remember sitting on the windowsill at boarding school, legs dangling out the window, listening to his concert drift over from the stadium where he was playing. Icehouse were supporting him. Sigh.

:)

Now i'm sorry I threw so many things away in a rare fit of minimalism a few years ago. It would be run to relive some of those memories you have shared with us.

OMG! I've just noticed the Qantas thingo was 'in partnership with BOAC'... which (according to my dad) stood for 'Better On A Camel'. I was in the BOAC Junior Jet Club. I found the badge (and book that all the pilots used to sign) in my parents' garage last year.

Haha funny dad, H! I was in love with Mr B too. Oh I craved and obsessed over him for a good 2 years. Then suddenly, it was over.

That's what worries me, Jan. I'm glad I now have at least a few of the things here in the blog to look at :)

OH HEY! WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHAT DOG, Miss H???!!!

Huff huff, Georgia :(

Well now that I have seen the bit of nostalgia you have shared today I see I need to go back and read! I am so very sorry I have missed so many of your wonderful dogs posts. I never seem to have enough time anymore.

BTW - The Chutes and Ladders game and the old books were awesome!

I wish I was playing the Secret Agent Card Game with the Magic Monocle this weekend!

Hope you're having a lovely Sunday, resting up for all the dictation GLP will be giving your this coming week!

Dear Melf, thank you for reading and commenting on all the nostalgia posts last night. It was such a lovely surprise to wake up to and must have taken you forever! :) I've never heard of Snakes and Ladders being called Chutes and Ladders before. Interesting.

Chandra! You remember how to play Secret Agent? Wow! But you're quite young which can only mean... the game is still around?

I don't care what you say...you are a sentimental ole thing. What treasures.

I recognize Chutes and Ladders, but none of the others. I wonder if it's a geographical thing? Have you ever heard of Charlotte's Web? That was another of my favorite books when I was a kid.

What a wonderful trip down memory lane you've been having. Makes me think about some of the stuff I've kept over the years, including the boxes of photos of who knows what (or whom)!

Peggy Frezon said...

I definitely had those nursery rhyme cards.
I wonder if kids today even know nursery rhymes anymore?

I guess it's a good think that Georgia didn't help you with the sorting - it might have gone faster, but you may not be as pleased with the results.

I just played with a set of Old Maid cards a couple weeks ago with my niece. It's nice to see we're still teaching kids that older women who've never been married are to be avoided. =)

I don't remember any of those things in particular but the style is reminiscent of lots of things from my childhood. Looking at that stuff brings such a potent blast of memories!

georgia little pea said...

Peggy, I think they may be more familiar with rap.

BOL Amy! That's funny. The days of spinsters and bachelor boys ;)

Has anyone suggested you open a flea market? Since you have such an international following, it should probably be on Ebay. Get Georgia to "autograph" some of the doggie related items and you might jumpstart your retirement kitty (fund).

Just a though.

wow, i dont think i have seen a chutes and ladders like that. that was one of my favorite childhood games besides candy land. also, i used to listen to david bowie, i loved him in the movie labyrinth!

Kristine said...

Snakes and ladders! For the longest time I never knew what people were talking about when they said "chutes and ladders". What is this game with the chutes? I would ask. I still call it snakes and will to my dying day.

You have some pretty wicked stuff hanging around. It makes me wish I hadn't thrown everything out. I don't have anything left from childhood, not even a single stuffed animal. It's kind of sad, now that I think about it.

georgia little pea said...

Pamela, you're not the first to suggest it. Interestingly, after decades, one of my sisters is asking if she can have some of the books and cards if I no longer want them. Ahhh. The power of the blog ;) Georgia autographing is a new angle though. I'll try to teach her how to sign in between her Spanish classes.

Kristine, thank you. I was beginning to think I was the only one who called the game SNAKES and ladders!
