Oh dis is bad! You sound JUST likes my mum Typist...dat bein' da bad part. Her gets all emotionals and bent out of shape when her sees anudder grey hair on my brudder and threatens to pluck it out. But I tells her it just be da sign he gettin' more wise.

ReplyDeleteBut Georgia isn't even four yet, is she? So just an adult, and even for large breed only into middle age. Never fear - with Georgia, mellow is a good thing. Her chances of staying alive have likely increased now her - um - adventuresome days are less adventuresome.
It's just another phase to enjoy after the puppy foolishness.
ReplyDeleteCloser to 5, JEAN. Don't mind me, I have days when I think too far ahead. She crapped me out by being down all day and chucking up 4 times (so far) tonight. I think however mellow she gets, she'll always be an adventurous connoiseur of street food ;)

ReplyDeleteIt makes me sad when I look at them with the white/gray in their face. :-( Their time with us is far shorter than it should be, we have so much we can learn from them.

ReplyDeleteHere I thought all this time you are from the southern USA state, Georgia. Yikes! First off, crazy drunk on a bus...I don't know whether I'm happy or sad to find out that you have them in Australia, too! LOL No matter where you are they are creepy and scary. Tender, aging pups...I once had a golden retriever with about 200 incurable diseases who the vet said would never see five years old. He lived a full, happy, wonderful 15 years...so much for gray muzzles and weak hips! I love your small stone entries! Happy Monday!

ReplyDeleteDear LOY, well I'm glad we got that sorted LOL. I guess you haven't read any of my fascinating indigenous flora and fauna posts. As for drunks. I believe we have the dubious distinction of being one of the top drinking AND binge drinking nations in the world. So sadlly, they are not an uncommon sight. We like being the best at what we do here.
ReplyDeleteYour GR reminds me of Rufus, the dog that picked Georgia. He was sick in every conceivable way and allergic to most meds but managed to outlive his always healthy friend Jordan by 2 years. You never know :)

ReplyDeleteIt was at about 5 when I noticed my Bruno was starting to age...there was grey around his muzzle, his eyes were a little cloudy and he was more likely to walk with me than run for miles ahead on the trail...about a year later I noticed his face looked "funny"...turns out he's had a mild stroke and one side of his face had started to sag... He was with me for three more years that I treasure before finally succumbing to a heart attack one morning while we were out to potty...Just the other day I was remembering our last walk together...for a few minutes he picked up a scent and began to run...then his hips reminded him of how old he really was and he slowed down to a walk...we only went about 1/2 mile that day and as we slowly made our way back tot he car I knew in my heart that we'd never hike together again, and we did not...but I will always remember the many miles we went and the many places we explored together during our oh so short time together

DeleteJordan, who was the pigdog we had before Georgia, wasn't even 11 when he very suddenly died from a bleeding tumour near his heart. I think big dogs do age quickly. Georgia's part Dane and their average life span is apparently only 7 years. I shouldn't be having such morose thoughts! Enjoy while we can eh. Hugs X
Oh Georgia, that time does get away from us !! It gos by too fast!! I look back on Bambi's life and her almost 14 years when by in such a short time!!!! But with her I was ready when she died but Zoie was a shock!!
ReplyDelete:( I have been thinking about that a lot lately too. Daisy is 9 now (at least that is the estimate). She hasn't slowed down much, but I am still aware of it. I love her so much I just hate the thought of her getting older. I want her to stay with me forever.

Apparently you aren't up on the 2013 dog coat fashions - grey is the new blonde!
ReplyDeleteDaley's muzzle started going grey when he was 7 and he was still a terror at that age! Mason is about 4.5-years-old now and he will sleep until 10 a.m. if I let him!
I know why you worry. I do it, too. In recent months there's been two or three times that I've looked at Mason and imagined him being very elderly and it scared me. We've been through a lot with our old dogs in the past. And we'll do it again. And again. And again.

DeleteAwww... I do the same thing when I look at Bella's grey muzzle. It especially gets me when I look at old photos and can see the difference.
ReplyDeleteThough I can tell you - now that Bella has reached the age of 11, she no longer sleeps in. (Most of her life, she's been a late sleeper, actually.) Now she's up before dawn most days, demanding breakfast. She wants dinner earlier too - it's like we live in the world of Early Bird Specials.
I LOVE that first picture of Georgia! So sweet!
