Small stone, a few hours later, Tuesday 29th January.

The rain and wind made it hard to sleep. Lucky. Because I suddenly heard the sound of a dog running down the stairs. I leapt out of bed and ran downstairs myself. [Nothing like a little foreboding to make one nimble.] Georgia was standing in the kitchen. I opened the back door. She looked at the rain, at me, made a mewling sound and walked back into the house towards the front door. Don't do this to me, girl! I yelled at her in my head. She came back, took a few tentative steps outside, sniffed the wet air, blinked at the rain, skipped gingerly up the steps to the top, walked anxiously round the yard a few times, then disappeared from view behind the orange murraya bushes. A fetid smell wafted down towards me, followed by a dog in a mad hurry to get away from it all. Oh Murphy. Nothing like green puddles at 4a.m. to make an already memorable night unforgettable. Only 3 more puddles after that. And 2 more on her walk.

  1. Oh poor Georgia...I'm so sorry she's not feeling well...During rainy season here I've had to pick Gizmo up and carry him outside and close the door to get him to go...otherwise he'll just try to hold it for what seems like forever...way longer than I ever could ;)

  2. Oh dear poor Ms Pea, so hope the poor lass is feeling calm and more herself very soon.
I haven't seen any reports on the tele yet, but it sounds like you've come through the storm last night in tact and not floating away......
Never seen anything like this system's widespread onslaught.

  3. GIZMO - does anyone know why dogs hate rain so much but are happy to get muddy and wet in a creek or puddle?!

ROSE, I honestly don't know another dog with as many dramas. Next time, I'm going to go for a fragile teacup poochie.

We survived! The storm wasn't as bad as the weatherman predicted, at least not in Balmain. Still, a lot of sweeping to do in the yard. [Eventually. It's still dripping a little.]

  6. I so agree -- what's up with dogs and rain? And dogs and rain and baths? And why do they always raise one pathetic paw, as if to say, "You can torture me with this clean water, but you go get this paw, no sir."

  10. The weather upset GLP, too! But look at it this way, with all the rain, you didn't have to clean up her "puddles" when you actually woke up!

  11. Oh Georgia, what did you get into NOW? Or was it just the stress from the storm? Are you a sensitive girlie scaredy-dog?

  12. MAGGIE and DUKE, she's not eating anything today! And if I had my way, she'd be on pap for the rest of her life ;)

CHANDRA, you can thank the stars I'm not doing a Small Stone on the puddle cleaning itself. No amount of rain could have washed them away.

    Yes AUNTY JEAN, she is.

  16. Poor Georgia! I guess you have to be thankful the green puddles were outside...

Homemade chicken and rice with a bit of mashed banana ought to help with that ;-)

  17. I hope you are managing okay with all the rain. I know of frustrating it can be. My dogs don't care to go out in it either unless I'm walking them in the woods, but who the heck wants to do that! I'm hoping it stops soon, so you all can dry out.

  18. I surely hope every one is feeling better!!! I am with Bert's Mom here I worry!!!
I have lived in this house 40 years now so I have had a lot of time to lose my sweet babies to the bridge here!!! The three I have now will probably out live me!

  20. poor Georgia, is her tumtum hurting?
green puddles are nothing to the melting look in her eyes when she is looking to her big clever mama for help.

    Actually, calling the results stones though . . . . . . ?

  22. Why is it that the dogs get sick when it's really wet or really cold outside? Talk about timing :( Hope that you are feeling better Miss GLP

  25. Oh no! My Lightning hates rain and will test the limits of canine bladders every time it rains substantially. Georgia - if its because you are scared of it, remember Typist wouldn't let you go out if it would harm you. How are you doing? Been thinking about you...saw a news article about the storm. No strangers to tropical storms / hurricanes here - I hope it has passed and you all stayed safe.

  26. I hope GLP is feeling better. It's no fun to be sick, but being sick in the rain is worse. I'm hoping that rain stops soon.
