Psycho night.

We're in a motel that used to be a hospital. It still smells like one. The only people we've seen, since checking in more than 6 hours ago, are the owners, and the cleaning lady who's working late. They were full over the weekend she says, but I think we may be the only earthly souls here tonight.

We had leftover curry for dinner in the kitchen.

Followed by a slice of homemade pie from under that cloche in the picture. No one else dropped by.

While we were eating, I saw an old lady walk into one of the rooms. Cushion didn't and there's been no sound or sight of her since. I'm sure I saw her. She must just be very quiet.

It's not even 8pm.

David Bowie is playing. Before him, Dean Martin.
Down the corridor, I can hear the telly in our room and Cushion coughing. From somewhere further away, a tumble dryer. There is no other sound.

I'm typing on this couch.

Wondering about the people who used to stay in these rooms and shuffle along these hallways.

I don't want to use the D word, but I'm thinking it.

Even the cat on the wall looks nervous.

There's a creepiness that's coming through in your pictures today...can't explain it, but they do have a haunted feel to them...

Where are you now? No hints in the photos or post, that's mean, lol! Very nice shades of green and pink.

Very atmospheric. Probably a fun place when full of people. Empty...I see where you're going with this. No showering.

OMG it still LOOKS like a hospital. And I think it might be haunted. I wonder if the woman you thought you saw was a demented old patient who was suffocated in her sleep....or the medical personnel who did it? Bwahahahaha! Stay safe.

Sounds very quiet indeed!
Do you play the piano? I think the piano music will be welcome...
Enjoy your voyage!

Hahaha! You guys are lovely! Had a good giggle reading your comments. And I did have a shower right after posting, LORI. The bathroom is hospital style, with wheelchair railings and a good nonslip floor. A streaky green too. I kept my eyes on the shower curtains ;)

Green, SUE, is a colour best seen in the daytime. At night, under certain lighting, it can be Deathly. Where we are, shall remain A Mystery (though if you've been reading the road posts, which you have, you should know! A hint... the town was totally destroyed in the last century.

Yes, it still does look like a hospital JEAN, and that's the ...charm...? of it, I think LOL. The young owners have done a really good job of creating the old vibe. The creepiness is just built into the walls! I will keep my eyes out for the old lady today. The cleaning lady has since told me that she does exist and there is one other guest upstairs. HAH. I'll believe it when I see them! Cushion thinks the old lady is someone who was feeling nostalgic for this place. Maybe an old patient? BWAH haha!

There are things on the piano, SONIA, so I don't think it's playable or maybe they don't want anyone to play it. With my piano skills, that's just as well :)

This is one seriously creepy Motel Typist! Def has the echoes of a hospital, with the furnishings straight from a time warp of the 50-/60's. Are you kidding us? and you were really visiting a movie set!
I'd like to shabby-chic the heck out of the cupboard in the kitchen, and I'd love to tinkle the ivories on that old piano!!
xx Happy travels!

I'm still trying to think what the "d" word is .... Demented? There's a theme to this place, and it's not healthy! Hope you are not in the Twilight Zone.

We have a place here called McMenamins-Edgefield that was the local poor farm. They've also created a neat hotel out of an old school. It's nice when these old establishments get 'new life'.

Picture a couple going on journey... dee dee dee dee, dee dee dee dee (that's supposed to be the Twighlight Zone music).

So long as you don't find small children racing up and down the corridors on tricycles chanting 'red rum, red rum', and so long as the old lady isn't next seen in the attic window I think you'll be okay. Oh, and if you see Jack Nicholson... RUN!

When you ring room service do they ask for your blood type?

Still alive! There are a couple more people here today and the owners and their baby. The place looks downright cheerful!

It really is a motel ROSE, and a rather cool one despite my raised neck hairs.

BARB, D for death! Doesn't every hospital have a bit of that?

I think so too SAGE.

Haha H! I will flee if I see the children. If I see Jack, I might ask for an autograph. I've already seen the old lady and she fits perfectly into the place. Looks like a throwback to the 60s, unsmiling to boot.

Room service, MS HIKER???

I don't know if you're still in the same place today/tonight but I'm thinking you'll be very pleased you bought the down coat before you left!!! It's a real bitter wind out there. You probably would have seen snow if you were still in Wellington :)

Rose ~ from Oz said...

I was just watching the arvo news and its snowing over there, ??? but didn't catch which island, prob the south. Stay warm!

georgia little pea said...

ROSE, it's snowing in north island! SUE, we're in Taupo where it's supposed to be -2 tonight. There's snow on the highway from Napier, which is the road we took this morning. Not sure if its closed. We have no snow chains, so lucky. We're sad we missed the snow in Wellie though. Theres also snow in the mountains. Thank goodness we did the Crossing last week! Very glad for the down coat. Bought more thermals today 50% off :D

That place looks creepy as hell. You are a brave lady for staying there! If Georgia could see these pictures, I'm sure she would be glad she's at Camp Couldbenice. ;)

Wow now that is frightening. I wonder which ward you were staying on....cardiac? maternity?
I hope it was a nice stay despite the vanishing lady and scary kitty.

Whoa dude. What a post to read when I'm alone at night with Florian away for the weekend! Watch out for the spooks. I'm going to go look at pictures of spring flowers and bunny rabbits.

I would never stay there. My imagination would be going wild.

Wow, that place is more than a little spooky. Did the old woman ever turn up ... or are you thinking she was one of the "long term residents?"

Rose ~ from Oz said...

Wow, so you did tangle with some snow then!
You must be on point of returning home, I'm guessing any time now!
Can't wait to hear all your news and hear how Ms Pea faired.
