Postcard from Brisbane: Chrissie dinner

Some very old friends of Uncle E's invited us to dinner at their place last night. Their names are Mr Terry and Ms Annette.

I got to go too! Thank goodness. It would have been awful if I'd had to stay home all by myself on Chrissie night [though it is entirely possible my besotted humans would have given up the dinner to keep me company if I'd not been invited].

I wore my best collar! and some flowers from the garden! so everyone would know I was a girl.
This did not work.

When we got there, the 1st thing I did was run around the yard. It was a very interesting place.
There were all sorts of herbs, vegetables, fruit trees, special indigenous plants, ponds with fish, a worm farm, piles of compost and a chicken pen. Apparently there were lots of froggies too but we didn't manage to see any.

I immediately found lots of smelly stuff to eat!
Here are 2 plants we'd never seen before!
On the left is a water chestnut, and on the right, a dragon fruit plant.

Here is a picture of a dragon fruit in case you don't know what it is. Isn't it beautiful?

The Typist says they look better than they taste though.

I got to meet the chickens!

The Typist was really worried I'd try to eat them. It's sad that she has such little faith in me. I didn't try to eat them at all! Maybe because they were in their pen.
My humans are very proud of how I've been behaving around farm animals [so far]. I have to say, I think I'm doing pretty good for my 1st trip out to the boonies.
The chickens are Lacy Wing Wyandottes. No one is allowed to eat these 3, only their eggs. Mr Terry says they're going to die of old age.

I had a big bone for Christmas tea!
Thanks to you lot always posting about how bad turkey, stuffing, ham and pudding are for us dogs, I didn't get to eat any yummy Christmas food this year.
Well, okay. So Ms Annette snuck me a bit of turkey and ham while no one was looking.

After dinner, we sat down and looked at pictures of Ms Annette and Mr Terry and Uncle E's trips to the far far north and Arnhem land and heard stories about how they had to cross rivers so full of salties, you could have walked across on their backs.

BWAH haha! As if anyone would believe a story like that.

Then, just when I thought I'd safely maneuvred past the Silly Things On Heads part of Christmas...
Apart from that, I had the best time! I hope your Chrissie dinner was as fun as mine!

Love, Georgia X

  2. SEEK LOCAL KNOWLEDGE is going to be my mantra for 2013!

We had pizza for Christmas dinner. I mean, we're in Italy with Dachshund Daddy's family for the holidays, so it makes sense, right? (Mom says, no.)

Glad you had such a great time exploring the boonies. Mom likes the way you use language. It reminds her of family.

Love and wags on Boxing Day,
    Tootsie

  3. How could anybody not know you are a girl? You have such a sweet face. We have chickens near our estate. They can run pretty fast when they are loose. Very tempting.

I think you had a swell day.

    Kisses,
    Dexter

  5. I'm glad you had a good Chrissie dinner, Georgia, and there's nothing wrong with turkey for dogs as long as you don't get the cooked bones or too much skin. Certainly no worse than whatever yummy things you found in that garden!
As for the strange things on heads, watch for my next post (after I've had several cups of coffee and walked the dogs today) - Eddie and you are cyber-twins! Hahahaha!

  6. I'm not sure I'd like chickens in real-life. They have beady eyes.

    Happy Boxing Day!

  10. What a perfect way to spend Christmas, GLP! Mr. Terry and Ms. Annette sound like fun and interesting people and I'm sure they were so impressed by your restraint around their chickens!

Your Christmas bone is ginormous! Weren't you worried about getting gravelly bits on it by eating it in the driveway?!

So glad you all had a great Christmas! You guys alway plan the best holidays!

    1. MSC, I did get a lot of gravel on my bone but it's okay. I have a servant who cleaned it for me. If I hadn't shown restraint, I would no doubt be dead by now or at least, very sorry.
